In the event of the House passing the impeachment, Paxton would be required to vacate his position immediately, with a trial following in the Senate. The move comes as Paxton is being investigated by the FBI over allegations of corruption regarding purported assistance to donor Nate Paul. The articles of impeachment detail a range of alleged wrongdoings by the attorney general, including bribery, misleading public officials, and the misuse of public information law, among other charges. Paxton has previously expressed that the investigation against him is politically motivated.
