NY lawmaker calls on ATF to send more agents to Long Island to combat illegal guns

A lawmaker in New York has urged the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to increase the number of agents in Long Island to tackle the illegal trafficking of firearms in Nassau County. Rep. Anthony D’Esposito wrote a letter to ATF Director Steven Dettelbach, stating that the rising crime rate in Long Island had become too much for the local enforcement agencies – making it difficult to investigate the source of the illegal guns. D’Esposito cited the arrest of two individuals from Georgia last year, who trafficked over 25 guns into Nassau County, 11 of which were used in crimes. This prompted D’Esposito to request that local law enforcement agencies be provided with the necessary resources and tools to safeguard the community.
