Attention hair owners, Gen Z have #cancelled side partings

Want to know why Gen Z’s hair is so big? It’s full of TikTok secrets – like how to create heatless waves and a truckload of texture with your dressing gown belt, or how to double the length of your ponytail with a hidden pony stacked underneath.

One thing you won’t see them do with their hair though, is wear it in a side parting. GOD FORBID. A new hilarious TikTok trend has seen Gen Z decree side partings “old” and “out of touch”. One creator named @missladygleep addressed the issue challenging followers: “prove me wrong, but I don’t think there is a single person who looks better with a side part than they do a middle part.”

Since then, hundreds of reaction videos have cropped up with millennials discovering the hairstyle has been outlawed. @blushliz posted a video wrestling her hair into a centre parting with the caption “Forcing a middle part every day because I don’t want Gen Z to know I’m old.” Meanwhile a user called @speedforcecozplay asked “is this why I’m not getting carded anymore when I go to pick up beer? Why did no-one tell me?!”

OG side-part veterans have stumbled across a problem, though: “I tried to fix it to look ‘hot’ but I’ve been parting my hair to the side for so long, that this happens now,” @speedforcecozplay demonstrated.

Some ferocious millennials aren’t taking it lying down though. “If you’re an elder millennial like me, let’s have a chat,” says @jenn_aedo. “First off, you’re a bad bitch, you can part your hair any way you want… Gen Z has had YouTube and all sorts of things to help them look the way that they do, but we originated that sh!t.” Her advice for next time you come against an age-shame from your lil sis “remember their generation ate Tide Pods.”

And, if the realisation is dawning on you that our baby cousins are old enough and smart enough to rip us for being old, it doesn’t stop there. Skinny jeans and the smile emoji (?!?) have also come under fire. One brave millennial slipped onto Twitter past our bedtime to report back on the shots being fired from the front line…

Bruised? Us to. One 25-year old @laurrsteele speaks on behalf of millennials everywhere when she says, “don’t fucking do that to me! I don’t need a quarter life crisis… I’m young and sprung… Yeah, my hair’s damaged and it’s in a side parting, but I don’t know what a mortgage is!”

No, YOU’RE upset.
