Sydney has secretly unveiled a bronze statue of its homegrown superstar Adam Goodes in front of the Swans’ new headquarters.

A statue of Goodes, performing his famous ‘war cry’ as the Swans played Carlton during the 2015 home-legs, was unveiled hours before the clash between the same clubs at the SCG on Friday night.

Goodes was present for the unveiling at Moore Park, but after distancing himself from the AFL following his painful exit from the game eight years ago, the dual Brownlow medalist paid no attention ahead of the low-key ceremony.

The sculpture was created by artist Cathy Weisman, who worked closely with Goodes to recreate the historic currency.

Tonight’s game between the Swans and Blues has massive implications for both sides, who have struggled but are in touch with the top eight.
